FDA Pressured to Approve Diet Drug Belviq to Fight Obesity That Is Doomed to Fail

OMG! There comes another big promise from the big pharma and government to save the overweight and obese Americans.

FDA just approved another new diet pill for doctors to prescribe to obese patients.

The new drug is called Belviq.

The FDA had denied approval for this drug in 2010 when scientist showed concerns that the drug may actually cause tumors in people.

Tumors!

The FDA just approved this drug after "new information" was produced by the manufacture.

Mmmm, some kind of conspiracy?

The studies show that this drug has helped obese people lose as much as 5% of their body weight within a year.
That means that a 300 lbs obese woman can lose as much as 15 pounds in a year.

15 pounds or 5% weight loss in a year?

Give me a 300 Lbs woman and I'll help her lose 15 pounds in 2-3 weeks by two simple tweaks by adding 15-20 minutes of walking to her lifestyle and removing some starches from her diet
You and I know that what you do and how you do it is the ultimate fat loss solution becuase you teach a lifestyle change, exercise, and good nutrition.

But the general public doesn't care.

All they're going to see is the ten o'clock news when the talking heads tell them that the FDA has approved a new weight loss pill.

Then they're going to see the TV ads from this drug company touting the new weight loss drug and encouraging them to "ask your doctor about it".

The public is going to see hope in this drug.

But you have an ethical obligation to educate and enlighten your clients, prospects and community on this new drug and how like all other drugs that were once approved and are now banned, this may end up the same way.

And that ultimately the hope of losing 5% of your body weight within a year shouldn't outweigh the risk of side effects like potential TUMORS.

Other side effects?

Including serotonin syndrome - a potentially life-threatening drug reaction that causes the body to produce too much serotonin and causes symptoms of agitation, diarrhea, heavy sweating, fever, muscle spasms, tremors or mental health changes. People taking antidepressants or migraine drugs that increase serotonin levels may be at an increased risk for this side effect. The drug may also cause "disturbances in attention or memory, according to FDA.

Use with caution in people who have congestive heart failure, according to the FDA.

How Boring Math Can Help You Lose Weight, Stay on Diet and Conquer Rising National Obesity Rate

Do you know what a mathematician finds out to solve the obesity problem?
Dr. Carson Chow is an MIT-trained mathematician and physicist. He was a faculty of the math department at the University of Pittisburgh. Recently he works for National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease – a branch of the National Institutes of Health. He’s in charge of a project trying to figure out why 2 in 3 Americans are overweight, 1 in 3 are obese.
Consider the facts:
- Between 1975 and 2005, the average weight of Americans had increased by about 20 pounds.
- Since the 1970s, the national obesity rate had jumped from around 20 percent to over 30 percent.
- The levels of physical activity have not really changes in the past 30 years.
After crunching large volume of numbers, he finally developed a mathematical model to answer a host of questions about weight loss. The mathematical equation says:
- The conventional widsom of 3500 calories less is what it takes to lose a pound of weight is wrong! It’s not a constant as your body changes when you lose weight.
- The fatter you get, the easier it is to gain weight.
- If you eat 100 calories fewer a day, you will lose 10 pounds on the average in 3 years – if you don’t cheat.
- Large variations in daily food intake will not cause variation in weight as long as the average food intake over a year is about the same, because your body responds slowly to food intake.
- All diets work. But the reaction time is really slow, on the order of a year. Most people aren’t patient and wait long enough to see what they’re doing to stabilize their weight.
His conclusion?
Overproduction of food in the United States.
Since the 1970s, the government changed agricultural policy to promote farming to full production. The price of foods went down and the number of calories available to the average American increased by about 1000 a day!
Well, what do think people do with that extra 1000 calories? They eat it, of course. If you know that Americans are already wasting a lot of foods, obesity would be even worse if they eat them all.
Take-away Message
Watch what you eat and how much you eat and when.
If you’re interested in learning how to use the mathematician’s equation, go to NIH site below for the Body Weight Simulator.

War Against Obesity is National Issue

Fighting against rising epidemic obesity is a national warfare declared by Morris County NJ personal trainer, fitness expert and diet coach Care Yang.

Obese Pot Belly

National obesity rate keeps rising with no stop in sight. According to new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 32 million more Americans will become obese by 2030, upping obesity rates to 42 percent of the U.S. population

The report also predicts that the proportion of Americans who are severely obese, meaning more than 100 pounds overweight, will reach 11 percent, about double the current rate. The damage is $550 billion of obesity-related health care costs that can be used to build national infrastructure, improve education, enhance job skills training, reduce unemployment rate, and stimulate economy.

"This is a sad story to read," says Carey Yang,  a certified personal trainer and fitness expert in New Jersey.

Yang is the owner and master personal trainer at Beyond Fitness Solutions, LLC — a leading in-home personal training and weight-loss management company serving and helping clients in Morris County, Sussex County, Passaic County, Essex County and Somerset County areas in New Jersey.

About 34 percent of adults are currently obese, creating a whole host of expensive, chronic health problems, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

"This is a war and we have to fight together as a nation," Yang says. "It has to start with youth. We know that about 50 percent of severe obesity in adults is consequence of obesity in childhood. Currently about 17 percent of children and adolescents are obese."

Yang says, we have so many government agencies, non-profit organizations, communities and schools involved to fight both adult and childhood obesity with a variety of programs. Even the First Lady Michelle Obama early this year launched a campaign to fight childhood obesity by improving childhood nutrition and physical activity.

“Nutrition and exercise start from home. Parents hold the key to educating their children,” Yang says. “Parents should be good role models for their children. If your children see you slouch in front of the tube and dig into a bag of chips along with a bottle of beer, it’s hard to resist the same lifestyle. Chunky Mom, plus chunky Dad, often equals chunky kids and pets.”

Yang advocates parents and family involvements in fighting against obesity. Health and fitness is truly a family matter. He offers a few solutions to promoting active lifestyle and making healthy choices.

1. Be a positive role model. Parents have to set a good example for themselves and for their children such as regular exercise, being active and eating a healthy balanced die.

2. Set family time to prepare meals and exercise together. Research shows that families eating and exercising together also stay closer.

3. Assign household chores. Children can learn the value of responsibility by sharing active household chores while increasing physical activity.

4. Limit sedentary activities. Watching TV and playing electronic games have taken so much time and opportunity out of moving around and exercising. Studies have shown that reducing TV time is associated with reductions in body weight and body fat.

It’s a day-to-day process and a series of repeated small steps that add up to awesome health habits. “Every time you choose the vegetables over the chips, a walk over a drive, and an active game over T.V., you’ve just made another donation to yourself and to your families lifetime health and fitness fund,” Yang says.

Americans Are Fat and Getting Much Fatter. NJ Celebrity Trainer and Fitness Expert Offers Help.

Americans are fat and getting much fatter. New study shows that 83% of men and 72% of women will be overweight or obese by year 2020. New Jersey celebrity fitness trainer Carey Yang offers his tips in fighting epidemic obesity.

America’s unstoppable obesity rates would account for more than $860 billion healthcare cost by 2030. “This is an alarmingly tough uptrend to fight againist,” says Carey Yang, a certified personal trainer and fitness expert  in Morris County, New Jersey.

Yang is the owner and master personal trainer at Beyond Fitness Solutions, LLC -- a leading in-home personal training and weight-loss management company serving and helping clients in Morris County, Sussex County, Passaic County, Essex County and Somerset County areas in New Jersey.

According to a latest study by Mark Huffman, an assistant professor of preventive medicine and cardiology at Northwestern University who presented them at the annual scientific meeting of the American Heart Association, Americans are continuing to get fatter and fatter. In the current trend, 83% of men and 72% of women will be overweight or obese by 2020.

Right now, 32 percent of men and 34 percent of women are obese. Those numbers are projected to rise to 43 and 42 percent in 2020, close to half of all people.

The number of people who have diabetes or are pre-diabetic is also projected to increase, from 6.3 percent and 37 percent of women to 8.3 percent and 44 percent. That's more than half of women.

Yang says, we have so many government agencies, non-profit organizations, communities and schools involved to fight both adult and childhood obesity with a variety of programs. Even the First Lady Michelle Obama early this year launched a campaign to fight childhood obesity by improving childhood nutrition and physical activity.

Yang offers four strategies to help overweight and obese men and women burn fat 24/7 by optimizing fat burning hormones and elevating metabolism around the clock.

1. Optimized Nutrient Combining: Avoid deadly nutrient combination of carb and fat. Release of insulin and fat promote storage. Do this by simply protein in every meal.

2. Carb Syncing: Prime your body with carb at the right times, in the morning and after intense exercise.

3. Strategic Overfeeding: Restricting calories and dieting put your body to starvation mode and decrease your metabolism to burn less fat. Strategic overfeeding resets your metabolism and keep your fat-burning furnace running again.

4. Metabolic Resistance Training: This type of exercise provides a huge metabolic stimulus to the entire muscular and cardiovascular systems at the same time through strategically designed full body resistance training combined with minimal rest.  This is what allows for an unparalleled exercise-induced increase in metabolism for hours and hours after your session—something we call the "after burn."

"When you combine the metabolism power of Metabolic Resistance Training with the hormone-regulating power of Optimized Nutrient Timing, Carb Syncing, and Strategic Overfeeding, the only thing your body can do is respond by burning fat 24/7," Yang says.

An Open Letter to NJ Governor Chris Christie on Losing Weight, Getting Fit and Healthy

An open letter to New Jersey Governor Mr. Chris Christie from Top Morris County, New Jesrey Personal Trainer Carey Yang

Dear Mr. Governor Christie,

I know it’s not feeling good to be criticized in public about your weight. It’s even worse to be publicized and ridiculed in the political arena and media all over the places.

Truth to be told, you know you have to lose weight, improve your health , and get in better shape for yourself, for your family and kids, for New Jersey residents and voters, and possibly for all U.S. people if you decide to run for U.S. President some day.

I don’t need to repeat the scientific study, research data or statistics to convince you. You know you have to do it.

We know you’ve been trying fo years. Your struggling with weight control. exercise and diet is not uncommon. Many many Americans share similar challenges in combating overweight, obesity and a host of related health issues. As a result, our nation’s healthcare cost has risen rapidly.

Great leaders set a good and strong example for demonstrating their integrity and characters. They walk the talk, not just talk to talk. It would be an inspiration to all Americans if you step up the plate, keep your promise, show your discpline and results.

People have compared you and your weight with President Obama. He has finally kicked his smoking habit.

It may not the right time for you to run for U.S. President. However, it’s TIME for you to run for your own health. In fact, there is no right time, good time or bad time to lose weight, exercise and eat healthy. The only thing you have to do is to decide. Make your decision. Commit to your decision. Set up a strategic game plan. Execute the plan and follow through.

You may have personal trainer before and may still have one. Today, I’d like to make you an unsolicted, nonpartisan, and sincere offer.

Please allow me to be your personal trainer and fitness coach, to help you lose weight, get in good shape!

Diet Soda Found Linked to Increased Diabestes and Obesity

For the last few years, many people switch from soda to diet soda to cut the calories without cutting their habit or addiction to having a can of soft drink on hand.

Obesity risk increases for every can of diet soda consumed per day, say researchers, and artificial sweeteners may contribute to the growing rate of diabetes.

Although intended to help consumers keep a sleek physique, diet sodas actually foster weight gain, according to a new study.

The research stemmed from a long-term study tracking the health of nearly 500 men and women for an average of 9.5 years. In comparing the weight of study participants who drank regular soda with those who drank diet soda, those drinking diet beverages saw their waistlines expand 70 percent faster than participants drinking regular soda. Other data showed those drinking two or more cans of diet soda per day had a 500 percent greater increase in waist circumference, indicating significant weight gain.

Lead researcher Helen P. Hazuda, Ph.D., chief of the Division of Clinical Epidemiology in the School of Medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, concluded that “the promotion of diet sodas and artificial sweeteners as healthy alternatives may be ill-advised.”

Dr. Hazuda also stated that diet drinks may distort a person’s appetite and may cause damage to brain cells due to the presence of artificial sweeteners. In a related project, researchers found that consuming aspartame—an artificial sweetener widely used in diet sodas—raised blood sugar levels in diabetes-prone mice.

These results suggest that heavy aspartame exposure might potentially directly contribute to increased blood glucose levels, and thus contribute to the associations observed between diet soda consumption and the risk of diabetes in humans,” said Gabriel Fernandes, Ph.D., the senior author and professor of rheumatology and clinical immunology.
An earlier study from the University of Texas Health Science Center in 2005 found that adults have a 41 percent increased risk of being overweight or obese for every can of diet soda they drink per day. Some researchers have hypothesized that people who had already begun to gain weight switched over to diet soda but failed to correct other necessary alterations to lose weight or prevent from gaining weight. Others suggest people equate drinking diet soda to being on a diet and therefore will continue to binge on fatty foods, thinking that the calories cancel each other out. The result is that they continue to gain weight.

Regardless of the cause of weight gain, the most recent indicates that while soft drinks as a whole are considered unhealthy, diet soft drinks are even more damaging to a person’s health. As Dr. Hazuda noted in her presentation, diet drinks are “free of calories but not of consequences.”

Your Half-Fat Chance by 2030

America in Crisis: Half of Americans will be obese by 2030 in the current trend.

Obesity is now considered a health epidemic.

Consider these facts:

  • Nearly two out of every three Americans are overweight or obese.
  • One out of every eight deaths in America is caused by an illness directly related to overweight and obesity.
  • In the current trend, half of Americans are projected to obese by 2030.
  • In the year 2000, the total annual cost of obesity in US was $117 billion.
  • Excess weight leads to an increase in type 2 diabetes. At least 17 million Americans have diabetes and another 16 million have pre-diabetes. Diabetes costs America $132 billion each year and can lead to eye disease, cardiovascular problems, kidney failure, and early death.
  • The annual cost of obesity is $4879 for women and $2646 for men, respectively. (GWU Study)

Solution: Call for Lifestyle Change

If obesity is the problem, then proper nutrition through healthy eating and regular exercise provide the solutions.

Realistic goals can be set and achieved using consistency and moderation as the guide. Healthy diet with portion size control and daily exercise is the key to success. The fundamental fact of obesity prevention and optimal weight management lies in the metabolism and energy balance in calories.

Currently only about 5% of Americans participate in some type of regular daily exercise while two-thirds would be more motivated if advised by their doctors. I'm sure many Americans participate in TV watching or video game playing.

For an exercise and nutrition program to be successful, one would start low and go slow. Small success gives you more motivation to stay on it. A startup program would call for 30 minutes of low intensity physical activity initially three to five times a week.

In addition to overall health, lifestyle activity is effective in the prevention of treatment of a variety of chronic conditions. The benefits increase with incremental levels of exercise intensityand weight loss.

In a final note, here is the quote from the US Surgeon General Dr. Carmona in 2010 for us, fitness professionals in particularly, to take charge in making our healthy American goals a reality.

"As Surgeon General, I charge you to make healthy personal choices in your own lives, and to set good examples for all the children arond you. And, I ask yo to work with me to support our efforts to improve Americans' health literacy, to put prevention first, and to end our nation's obesity epidemic before it has a change reach into another generation of Americans."

The First Lady Wants You To Be Fit and Healthy

The First Lady Wants You To Be Fit and Healthy

We are encouraged that there has been much positive news in the headlines lately on the obesity activism front from the highest office in the nation.

First Lady Michelle Obama, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and U.S. Surgeon General Regina Benjamin announced plans earlier this month to help Americans lead healthier lives through better nutrition, regular physical activity, and by encouraging communities to support healthy choices.

The First Lady followed up by establishing a task force on childhood obesity, vowing that she would do all she could to lead the charge to eliminate it in one generation. Read more about the task force here: http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/presidential-memorandum-establishing-a-task-force-childhood-obesity

The First Lady also announced her Let’s Move initiative, which provides a clear 4 pronged approach toward how we as a nation will accomplish wiping out childhood obesity.

HHS released The Surgeon General’s Vision for a Healthy and Fit Nation. In her first release to the nation, Dr. Benjamin highlights the alarming trend of overweight and obese Americans, and asks them to join her in a grassroots effort to commit to changes that promote the health and wellness of our families and communities. Read the complete document here. http://www.surgeongeneral.gov/

As a fitness training professional, I’m pledging my support of these initiatives, emphasizing that I share the same mission and recognize the dire consequences of inaction. I encourage you to also show your support by personalizing this letter template to send a letter to the First Lady and let her know you are well-prepared and eager to help.

You can e-mail the text of the letter by using the organization template on The White House website: http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/organizations.

You can mail a hard copy of your letter to: First Lady Michelle Obama, The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington DC 20500.
