Diet Doctor Scam

A SHAMED ex-doctor who sold slimming pills to vulnerable women has been jailed for 18 months.


Sudesh Madan, 57, duped patients into thinking she was a medical doctor, although she had been struck off in 2001.

Her prison sentence - one of the longest for such a crime - followed revelations in The Sun last December that she was working again. Police raided one of her five Easy Slim clinics. Madan charged £20 for a week's supply of phentermine and diethylpropion - tablets that have serious side effects.

Women who bought them have been urged to contact their GP for advice.

The pills can cause breathing problems and swelling and raise blood pressure, St Albans Crown Court was told. Madan, of Romford, Essex, worked as Dr Ahmed in her northern clinics and conned hundreds of women.

Cops found 39,000 tablets and capsules at her home and clinics in Harlow, Essex, Welwyn Garden City, Herts and Wakefield, Huddersfield and Barnsley, Yorks.

She pleaded guilty to possessing and selling a controlled drug.
Madan had been struck off for selling dangerous appetite suppressants.

Det Insp Ian Butler said: "We are determined to use our powers to remove any profits she made."
